Currently in its 21st year, The World’s Ugliest Dog Contest in Petaluma, California, attracts hideous dogs from all over the world to compete for cash prizes ($100 for mutt class, $500 for runoff with the pedigree class winner, and $1,000 for World’s Ugliest Dog) and the honor of being the World’s Ugliest Dog. The competition was stiff this year, and a show-down between Pabst (who was given his name because he had a “bitter beer face”) and Rascal (the former 2008 winner) ultimately forced Rascal, a Chinese Crested (a breed that has single handedly dominated the contest for the last 7 years and represented almost 50% of the 2009 entries), to rescind his crown to Pabst, the boxer with the seriously ugly underbite. Pabst was a major winner and swept in all three categories beating out stiff competition. The first time winner’s owner, Miles Egstad, in classic Stage Mom mode was stunned at Pabst’s win remarking “I don’t think he’s that ugly!” Sorry, Miles. He is pretty ugly.
Watch Animal Planet on October 25th for a chance to watch the World’s Ugliest Dog contest and meet the rest of god’s most special little people.
